13 Mar 2012 - Foundation Executive Director Invited to Doha

On March 7th, at the invitation of Qatar Natural History Group chairwoman Dr. April Conkey, Foundation Executive Director David Stanton gave an illustrated presentation entitled, "Preserving Yemen's Leopards: Origins, Challenges, and Successes." 114 people attended the presentation which was held in the multipurpose room of the Doha English Speaking School. The talk was well received and members of the audience sufficiently moved to make purchases of original watercolors by bird artist Mike Langman, and ad hoc donations totalling QR 10,100.  The money will be used to purchase trail cameras to replace those lost in Hawf to damage and theft, and to underwrite the living expenses of Foundation researchers Waleed Al-Ra'il and Murad Mohammed as they study English at the Modern American Language Institute in Sana'a.  Travel for Mr. Stanton was provided by QNHG sponsor Mr. Khaled Al-Raban, owner of the Rayyan Mineral Water Company. Due to the timing of the flights between Sana'a and Doha, Mr. Stanton was able to enjoy a few extra days in Doha where he experienced the exceptional hospitality of local luminaries, and veteran Doha residents David and Frances Gillespie.
